Last month Sims Professional Engineers’ tank car specialist Lew Elzey re-retired so he could spend more time with his family. Lew was an invaluable member of our team. Coming to us with a degree in industrial engineering and over 23 years of experience at Union Tank, Lew became like family in the 5 and a half years in our small firm.
Lew Elzey concludes a stellar career with Sims Professional Engineers having spent the last six years of his career making invaluable contributions to the Tank Car Accident Database and other tank car related engineering projects at Sims. Lew’s career spanned five decades including many years at Union Tank where Roger Sims got to know Lew. After retirement from Union Tank, Roger asked Lew to join Sims and it was a great match. Before Union, Lew worked many years at PPG so his breadth and depth of experience was what made him a great asset at Sims. His skill set was unique and that is what will be missed at Sims – and in the industry.
Lew plans to spend more time with his family, and volunteer in Michigan City and his church. We wish Lew well in retirement and we hope he’ll stop in for lunch occasionally.
